Making food for your baby has many benefits. The benefit that I was most attracted to was the cost savings. Making your own organic baby food, as compared to purchasing it saves alot of money. You also get more nutritious meals for your baby when you add herbs to the baby’s food, that are not found in commercially prepared baby foods.
Before introducing solids, you should first consult your pediatrician. You should also use the 4 day wait rule. This means introducing the same food for four days in a row to rule out ant food allergies.
There are very few tools you need to make your own baby food, and you probably have those tools in your kitchen right now. All you need is a pot to boil the vegetables in, something to puree the vegetables, and something to portion the baby food into. You can use several different things to puree your baby’s food. I used a submersible blender, which worked very well. You can also use a standard blender or a food processor. Next, you need something to divide the baby food into individual portions. When my baby was small I used ice cube trays to make individual portions. When the little cubes were frozen, I transferred them into gallon size freezer bags. When he started eating more than 3 little cubes, I began to divide the baby food into small freezer and microwave safe storage bowls.
When preparing your baby’s food, cleanliness is of the up most importance. Make sure you clean all the tools, work surfaces, containers, pots/pans, and your hands. You can use hot soapy water, or a run through the dishwasher for your tools.
After you have thoroughly cleaned all of your tools and work surfaces, you are ready to begin. Prepare your vegetables by cutting them in similarly sized pieces. Always remove the skins of fruits and vegetables for the baby food. Either boil or roast your vegetables until very tender. Then puree them using your preferred method of a submersible blender, a standard blender, or a food processor until very smooth. Then you can portion the puree into individual ice cube trays. When the food is frozen you can transfer then into gallon size freezer bags.
After preparing these delicious baby food recipes, if your baby isn’t as excited as you are about the taste, don’t despair! Try to remember what you and your husband liked to eat as children, your baby will probably have the same likes and dislikes. The key is to keep reintroducing the foods. Just because your little one does not like peas one day, does not mean they will not like peas a month from now.
Isn’t that baby the cutest, I could not have gotten such a wonderful shot, this one comes courtesy of mightyb.
